The world of dentistry continues to advance at a rapid pace. If you have visited a San Diego dentist in the past few years, you have probably noticed the things that make your visit more comfortable, such as the ability to watch TV or listen to music while receiving treatment. Many San Diego dentistry patients welcome oral conscious sedation to reduce or eliminate pain.
What may not be as obvious are the advances in techniques, tools and materials. Top San Diego dentists now use digital computer imaging which is safer than traditional x-rays. Dental technicians can store, retrieve and transmit digital images much easier than was possible with traditional x-ray film.
The use of lasers has also changed the face of dentistry. Laser surgery requires less anesthesia, minimizes swelling, and protects surrounding tissue. San Diego family dentists use lasers for detecting and treating cavities and dental technicians use them for the curing of restorative materials.
Another exciting development in cosmetic dentistry is the CAD-CAM technology that allows Bankers Hill cosmetic dentists to perform restorations in a single visit. The types of procedures that can be completed in one visit include crowns, fillings, inlays, onlays and veneers.
If you need a thorough exam or want to improve your smile with cosmetic dentistry, call Marcos Ortega DDS at 619-295-4545 to schedule a consultation. During your consultation, you can see before and after photos of some of our smile makeover clients. We would love to help you achieve the smile you have always wanted, and we have the tools, experience and technology to make that happen.

How do celebrities obtain brilliant white smiles always ready for the red carpet or a close-up? Do they avoid coffee? Not likely. Every star-watching magazine is full of pictures of famous people holding Starbucks cups. Do they avoid tobacco? Some probably do, but many actors and fashion models with dazzling white smiles are smokers.
Very few people (famous and non-famous alike) with perfect teeth were born with them. (…Sure, no one is born with teeth, but you know what I mean.) Celebrities have perfect smiles because they have undergone cosmetic dentistry.
Guess what? You can also have a smile like a supermodel or television news anchor because Dr. Marcos Ortega at Marcos Ortega DDS has as much experience and training in advanced cosmetic dentistry as any Hollywood cosmetic dentist.
Dr. Ortega has been providing smile makeovers for San Diego and Mission Hill dental clients since 1986. Tooth whitening is the most affordable cosmetic dentistry procedure in Hillcrest. Tooth bleaching quickly perks up your teeth and makes you feel like smiling all the time!
Porcelain veneers are used often in Mission Hills and Mission Valley cosmetic dental offices because they correct myriad problems. Veneers remedy misshapen teeth, cracks and chips, and discolored teeth. Teeth that have been worn down extensively can also be repaired with veneers. Preparing a tooth for a porcelain veneer is minimally invasive. The latest veneers do not require the removal of healthy enamel. Another plus: veneers are usually less expensive than complete crowns!
Tooth bleaching and veneers are just two of the many cosmetic dental procedures performed at Marcos Ortega DDS. Schedule a San Diego cosmetic dental consultation today by calling 619-717-8459. At our office, you will always receive VIP treatment, without the annoying paparazzi!
We look forward to helping you achieve a celebrity smile.
(Note that the celebrities pictured above are not affiliated with our site; they just have great smiles!)

Hello! Welcome to the Marcos Ortega DDS blog. If this your first visit, we hope you find useful information about our San Diego cosmetic dentistry practice. If you have read some of our previous articles, we are glad you checked back with us. We post new articles regularly.
My name is Dr. Marcos Ortega, DDS. I have been practicing dentistry in San Diego since 1986. Marcos Ortega DDS is a full-service dental office located at 306 Walnut Ave., Suite 25 in San Diego. In addition to providing comprehensive examinations and deep cleanings for clients in the San Diego area, we perform all types of tooth restorations.
When a tooth has decay or has been damaged, a dental restoration is needed to ‘restore’ the tooth to its previous intact condition. A dental filling is one of the most common and well-known types of restorations. A dental filling is used to repair decayed or damaged tooth surfaces. Most people have a few fillings in their mouth.
If you have old silver amalgam fillings, we can replace them with nearly-invisible fillings tooth colored. These fillings are made out of a strong composite resin. Many of our cosmetic dentistry patients have replaced their old silver fillings with fillings matched to their teeth. You can improve your smile instantly and relatively inexpensively by getting rid of the ‘metal’.
Another reason some clients have had their old fillings replaced is because they are concerned about the possible heavy metal toxicity of the mercury in the silver.
If you would like to replace your amalgam fillings, call us at 619-295-4545 to schedule a consultation. We are currently accepting new patients and would be happy to show you around our San Diego cosmetic dental office and introduce you to our friendly team.
Smile – it increases your face value!

When my San Diego clients ask me about San Diego tooth restoration, I usually tell them about fixed (or ‘traditional’) dental bridges or tooth implants. A dental bridge is an artificial tooth which replaces a missing tooth. The false tooth (called a ‘pontic’) is fused to porcelain crowns on either side of the missing tooth.
Tooth replacement has been a highly requested procedure at my San Diego dental practice. Patients from the Mission Hills, Mission Valley and Bankers Hill area have expressed concern about tooth replacement for many years. Most of my questions have to do with the strength of the tooth replacement, and durability.
Dental implants are also popular concern for my San Diego tooth replacement patients. A dental implant consists of a titanium post surgically inserted into the jaw bone to replace the root of the missing tooth. The post integrates with the bone to provide a stable foundation for the replacement tooth.
After it has bonded with the bone (it usually takes three to six months), a smaller post is attached. This post extends above the gum line. The artificial tooth (crown) is then attached. The entire process takes several months, but consistently yields terrific results for San Diego tooth restoration patients. My California cosmetic dentistry patients appreciate the fact that I stay up to date on the latest advancements in tooth replacement procedures.
Both smile restoration options preserve or restore facial contour and allow you to talk and eat normally. Tooth replacements prevent adjoining teeth from gradually shifting and can help correct bite problems, too. Tooth implants and dental bridges can replace one or more missing teeth. Many San Diego area dental patients have been treated successfully with these tooth restoration alternatives.
Call Marcos Ortega DDS to schedule an evaluation for California tooth restoration. You can schedule your tooth restoration by calling us at 619-295-4545.

When a tooth is threatened by severe decay, periodontal disease, or damage from an injury, a skilled San Diego dentist or endodontist must make a judgment call concerning the course of treatment. If the pulp of the tooth is infected or inflamed, a root canal is often the only way to save the tooth.
Marcos Ortega DDS: 619-295-4545
During a root canal procedure (or endodontic treatment) the soft tissue in the root of the tooth is removed. This tissue contains veins, arteries and lymph vessels. Once the roots are cleaned out and widened, they are filled with a special rubber material. The root canal is only the first step in the complete tooth restoration. After the root canal, without a crown, the tooth will become dry and brittle. The final steps are the core build up and crown.
At Marcos Ortega DDS, we fabricate strong, natural-looking crowns that blend perfectly with the surrounding teeth. With proper oral hygiene and regular visits to a San Diego dentist, a tooth with a filled root can often function problem-free for the rest of a patient’s life.
I am Dentist Dr. Marcos Ortega DDS of Marcos Ortega DDS. I have been practicing dentistry since 1986. During that time I have seen hundreds of teeth saved by this effective dental procedure. Root canal therapy at Marcos Ortega DDS in San Diego has a very high success rate.
Because teeth with infected pulp tissue often cause no symptoms, it is important to have regular dental examinations. I can determine which (if any) teeth have infected roots. If the infection in the soft pulp tissue is left untreated, it can progress to a point where the tooth cannot be saved. Is it time for a thorough dental exam? Call our office at 619-295-4545.
Call Marcos Ortega DDS immediately if one of your teeth is screaming for attention!

If you are planning extensive cosmetic dental work, you may be wondering whether to do it all at once or one procedure at a time over an extended period. Here are some factors to consider:
Cost
In the long run, It is less expensive to do it all at once. At Marcos Ortega DDS in San Diego, we are able to complete several procedures in one visit. We know that complete smile transformations are a significant investment for most San Diego residents. We would be happy to discuss affordable dentistry financing options. Call us at 619-295-4545 to schedule a no-pressure consultation.
Time
With the latest materials and cosmetic dental techniques, healing times are shorter than ever before. However, some procedures such as bone grafting, soft tissue grafting, root canals, and dental implants often require a short healing period.
It is easier physically and psychologically to have the fewest possible visits to your San Diego dentist. You should also consider how your dental visits and necessary healing periods will impact your employment and family life. You will have less down time if you receive several procedures at once.
Aesthetic Results
While we routinely achieve great outcomes when doing a smile makeover in steps, porcelain restorations are best fabricated in the same “batch” for the most precise color matching.
Sedation Dentistry
When you come in for a smile analysis, we can discuss oral sedation dentistry. Many cosmetic dental patients benefit from this safe and effective solution for pain and anxiety management. Conscious sedation is especially helpful for procedures such as multiple wisdom teeth extractions and dental implant placement.
