Do Whitestrips Work?

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Do Whitestrips Work in San Diego? If you have visited the toothpaste aisle at your Hillcrest Wal-Mart, you have probably noticed dozens of products that claim to whiten your teeth. A few years ago, the only over-the-counter tooth whitening options in Hillcrest were whitening toothpastes and Crest Whitestrips. Now there is a wide variety of products at every drugstore counter in the Hillcrest area.

Whitening Rinses
Mission Hills, Mission Valley, and Hillcrest whitening rinses are similar to mouthwashes. They kill bacteria, freshen breath and may help remove plaque. Whitening rinses, however, contain tooth-whitening ingredients not found in mouthwashes. Manufacturers advise taking a mouthful of the rinse and letting it slosh around on your teeth for one minute twice a day. Though this method is simple, many users never notice a lightening of their teeth. This is probably because the rinse does not touch your teeth long enough to truly whiten them.

Whitening Strips
The whitening strips you can buy in Hillcrest  grocery stores have a couple of drawbacks. Though they contain a bleaching agent, it is much less potent than those used in Bankers Hill dental offices. Another problem is that they do not whiten between teeth because the strips only touch the front surface. Though it is possible to remove stains, it can take months to see any whitening. By that point, you have probably spent more money than you would have if you’d have chosen the professional system at your Hillcrest tooth whitening dental clinic.

Teeth Whitening Gels
Whitening gels are painted onto teeth with a small brush. One problem with whitening gels is that they only stick to dry teeth. If any saliva gets on the teeth during treatment, the gel is more likely to slide off.

If you are serious about dramatically whitening your teeth, the safest, quickest, and most affordable system is at your Hillcrest dental office.

Advanced Dentistry in San Diego

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Advanced Dentistry in San Diego The world of dentistry continues to advance at a rapid pace. If you have visited a San Diego dentist in the past few years, you have probably noticed the things that make your visit more comfortable, such as the ability to watch TV or listen to music while receiving treatment. Many San Diego dentistry patients welcome oral conscious sedation to reduce or eliminate pain.

What may not be as obvious are the advances in techniques, tools and materials. Top San Diego dentists now use digital computer imaging which is safer than traditional x-rays. Dental technicians can store, retrieve and transmit digital images much easier than was possible with traditional x-ray film.

The use of lasers has also changed the face of dentistry. Laser surgery requires less anesthesia, minimizes swelling, and protects surrounding tissue. San Diego family dentists use lasers for detecting and treating cavities and dental technicians use them for the curing of restorative materials.

Another exciting development in cosmetic dentistry is the CAD-CAM technology that allows Bankers Hill cosmetic dentists to perform restorations in a single visit. The types of procedures that can be completed in one visit include crowns, fillings, inlays, onlays and veneers.

If you need a thorough exam or want to improve your smile with cosmetic dentistry, call Marcos Ortega DDS at 619-295-4545 to schedule a consultation. During your consultation, you can see before and after photos of some of our smile makeover clients. We would love to help you achieve the smile you have always wanted, and we have the tools, experience and technology to make that happen.

Why Aren’t You Smiling?

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

San Diego Dentistry Hello, I’m Dentist Dr. Marcos Ortega DDS. My dental practice is called Marcos Ortega DDS. We are located at 306 Walnut Ave., Suite 25 in San Diego (92103), and you can reach us by calling 619-717-8459.

You can probably imagine why I look at smiles everywhere I go in the San Diego area. Whether I am working with a Mission Hills or Mission Valley dental patient, having dinner at a Hillcrest restaurant, or attending a Bankers Hill sporting event, I notice whether the people around me smile. Whenever I encounter someone with obvious tooth problems, I want to tell them about the procedures that can completely transform their frown into a healthy and beautiful smile.

Are you one of those people who don’t want to show their teeth? I would love to talk to you about a smile makeover. Whatever your excuse is for not seeking dental treatment, I can discuss all of your concerns with you during a free consultation.

Perhaps you are afraid of dental work. Have you ever considered oral conscious sedation? With sedation dentistry, even extensive treatment is virtually pain free. Sedation will calm your mind as well as the nerves in your mouth.

Perhaps the cost of San Diego cosmetic dentistry is holding you back. My very comfortable and friendly staff will be happy to talk to you about financing plans. It is important to remember that if your teeth are decayed, postponing treatment will cost more money in the long run. Filling a cavity is far more affordable dentistry than a root canal procedure or, in the case of an extracted tooth, a dental implant.

You can contact my office at 619-717-8459 or online at http://www.MySanDiegoSmiles.com. My San Diego family dental website contains information about all the general, restorative and aesthetic services we provide.

I can transform your smile into one that you will want to show all the time!

San Diego Dentistry Cosmetic at Marcos Ortega DDS

Cosmetic Denistry in San Diego Do you have a damaged tooth that causes you embarrassment? Even if all your other teeth are nicely shaped and pearly white, guess what other people notice? Yep, the ugly duckling. You have probably experienced that yourself when you have looked at a smile that contains one discolored tooth. No matter how hard you try, the unsightly one is impossible to ignore.

A beautiful smile is an important component of your overall appearance. Unattractive teeth draw the eye away from other pleasing features such as thick shiny hair, gorgeous eyes or a peaches and cream complexion.

Fortunately, there are several cosmetic dental procedures to restore or repair one or more teeth. At Marcos Ortega DDS in San Diego, we can complete most of them in one short visit. Think about it; you could achieve a stunning smile in less than an afternoon!

Veneers, Bonding and Cosmetic Implant Dentistry
Dental bonding is an affordable cosmetic dentistry procedure available in San Diego at Marcos Ortega DDS. We use dental bonding in a variety of applications. In addition to repairing damage, dental bonding can close gaps between teeth.

Porcelain veneers are another minimally invasive cosmetic fix. Like cosmetic dental bonding, veneers correct chips, cracks and improve tooth shape.

What if your problem is not an unattractive tooth but a missing tooth? Don’t despair, a beautiful smile is still possible in San Diego with dental implants.

For more information about veneers, bonding, implants and other cosmetic denistry procedures, call Marcos Ortega DDS at 619-717-8459. We are conveniently located at 306 Walnut Ave., Suite 25 in San Diego. We provide advanced dentistry for patients in Hillcrest, Mission Hills, Mission Valley and the surrounding areas. We look forward to showing you cosmetic dentistry ‘before after’ pictures.

Keeping your teeth clean is an important factor in maintaining your beautiful San Diego smile. I am a and I work at Marcos Ortega DDS located in the state of California. We specialize in cosmetic and sedation dentistry in the San Diego California community, including the surrounding areas of Hillcrest, Mission Hills, Mission Valley.

This is done by brushing regularly with a toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste, and flossing. Brushing and flossing at least twice each day can keep plaque and tartar from building up on your teeth and results in cleaner, healthier teeth. A regular visit to your local San Diego dental hygienist will help you stay on top of problems that can go unseen.

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends visiting your local San Diego, California dentist at least once every 6 months for a regular dental check up and teeth cleaning. These regular visits to your California dentist potentially prevent the undetected development of problems that can occur from neglecting to clean your teeth.

To keep that beautiful San Diego California smile in good shape, come in for a dental check up and teeth cleaning.

Treating Bite Problems in San Diego

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

Treating Bite Problems in San Diego Malocclusions (bite problems) include overbites, underbites and crossbites. Jaw alignment disorders restrict proper chewing, talking, and swallowing. They can also cause teeth to shift around in the mouth. San Diego dentistry patients with bite problems are at a greater risk for tooth decay and periodontal disease because bite misalignment often makes it difficult to maintain proper oral hygiene.

When the lower jaw is smaller than the upper jaw, it is called an overbite. When the situation is reversed, it is called an underbite. Crossbite occurs when lower teeth are in the wrong position.

Bite problems can cause headaches and TMJ pain. Some dental patients with severe bite problems develop a distorted facial shape and damaged teeth.

Choosing A Dentist In San Diego

Friday, March 19th, 2010

Choosing A Dentist In San DiegoThe American Dental Association offers some welcome advice for choosing a dentist in San Diego. We have already talked about how word of mouth is an important factor in how many people find a dentist. Here are some things you should look for in an San Diego dentist:

Location is always a factor when choosing a dentist in San Diego. If you live in the San Diego California area, there are many options, and most San Diego locations are not too far out of the way. While location plays an important role in convenience, many people are willing to drive a little farther for a better experience with their San Diego dentist.

Relationship is a strong factor. Your San Diego dentist should be approachable, and should make you feel comfortable when you are in the dentist chair. After all, your dentist will be working very close with you to help you achieve a high level of oral hygiene; you most certainly will want to have a good, professional, comfortable relationship with your dentist and the dental office staff.

Specialty is another important factor in choosing a dentist in San Diego. Some dentists specialize in cosmetic dentistry. Others specialize in corrective dentistry such as braces. Depending on your need, you may select a local San Diego dentist who can solve your immediate concern. Bare in mind, however, that it is good to have a general dentist who can maintain your dental history and work with you to through the years.

If you are looking for a dentist in San Diego, please come by and speak with me. I can address your interest in any of these critical areas, and will be happy to introduce you to Marcos Ortega DDS.

I look forward to meeting you.
