Is Sedation Dentistry Safe For San Diego?

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

Affordable San Diego Dentistry Sedation When I discuss sedation dentistry with new San Diego cosmetic dentistry patients, I encounter many misconceptions. The purpose of today’s Marcos Ortega DDS dentistry article is to de-bunk some of the most common myths about dental sedation.

Myth #1: With San Diego Sedation Dentistry, You Are Completely Unconscious

Some nervous San Diego dental patients are not only afraid of receiving treatment; they also fear the thought of not being in control. At Marcos Ortega DDS, we offer different levels of sedation, but none of the sedation options put you completely to sleep. With oral sedation you are relaxed but not totally knocked out. When we need to ask a San Diego dental sedation patient a question during the treatment, the patient is able to hear, understand, and respond.

Myth #2: San Diego Dental Sedation Should Only Be Used For Extensive Dental Treatment

San Diego anxiety-free dentistry is completely safe. Many nervous sedation dentistry clients request sedation for routine exams and procedures.

Myth #3: Most California Dental Insurance Companies Do Not Cover San Diego Sedation Dentistry

Some San Diego dental insurers do cover sedation. Check with your insurer for details about your California dental insurance benefits.

Myth #4: San Diego Sleep Dentistry Is Still Experimental

San Diego cosmetic dentists have been safely providing sedation for many years. Marcos Ortega DDS meets all the requirements advised by the American Dental Association. Millions of Americans and thousands of California cosmetic dental patients have safely received sedation for dental treatment.

For more information about anxiety-free dentistry, contact Marcos Ortega DDS at http://www.mysandiegosmiles.com/doctors.htm or 619-717-8459 today to schedule a sedation consultation.

Perhaps you have a beautiful smile and want to prevent tooth decay. Many San Diego people have a mouth full of fillings and don’t want to add another one to their collection.

At Marcos Ortega DDS, we have a prevention-oriented philosophy of dental care.

Your first step toward dental health begins with a prevention consultation with cosmetic dentist Dr. Marcos Ortega.

San Diego dental patients of all ages need to start with an exam to determine their current status. After a comprehensive analysis, Dr. Marcos Ortega can establish a decay prevention plan just for you.

A prevention plan is a multi-faceted approach designed to maintain optimum dental health. It involves affordable preventative services at Marcos Ortega DDS. Love Your Smile in San Diego

Thursday, November 11th, 2010

Love Your Smile in San Diego There is nothing like bright white teeth that light up a person’s whole face when they smile and laugh. No one has to settle for dull, yellow teeth.

This is a great time for San Diego men, women and teens to get a deep teeth cleaning and tooth whitening at Marcos Ortega DDS in San Diego. With a deep cleaning followed by teeth whitening, your teeth will feel as good as they look.

If you have an important upcoming event such as a Hillcrest wedding, Mission Hills, Mission Valley party or formal family portrait sitting, a smile makeover will give you extra confidence as you pose for photos (even close-ups).

San Diego teeth whitening can whiten teeth beyond their natural shade. At our San Diego cosmetic dentistry practice, we don’t use a conventional shade chart for our whitening clients anymore. You have probably seen the porcelain tabs in graduated shades that San Diego tooth whitening dentists use to determine appropriate, yet natural looking, shades for tooth restorations. We now use a shade guide with levels significantly whiter than the guides we have used in the past. Tooth whitening is not a gimmick; it is safe and incredibly effective. San Diego teeth whitening clients can maintain a white shade that equals the brightness of the ‘tooth’ models you see in dental marketing.

San Diego tooth whitening following twice-yearly cleanings is the most affordable cosmetic dentistry procedure. Tooth bleaching in San Diego is comparable to the cost of a professional hair weaving and cut, but when you consider the transformation; there is no comparison! Flash your gorgeous, sparkling smile, and no one will even notice your hair.

Tooth Decay in San Diego?

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

San Diego Teeth Whitening At Marcos Ortega DDS, we restore decayed teeth to create smiles that are both healthy and beautiful. Recent advances in both techniques and materials have made the ‘impossible’ not only possible, but affordable for everyone as well.

Dentist Dr. Marcos Ortega has been restoring teeth since 1986. Ongoing training is essential for staying on the cutting edge of the cosmetic dentistry industry.

Decay is the most common San Diego dental problem and the second most common disease in the nation (number one is the common cold). If you have one or more teeth with decay, it’s time to take care of them.

Fillings, inlays, onlays and dental crowns are used to restore teeth for our San Diego cosmetic dental patients. Even the most basic procedure – filling a cavity – has evolved. There are several types of new materials available including porcelain and composite resin. Each has specific strengths and aesthetic considerations. San Diego patients who replace silver amalgam with tooth-colored fillings love getting the metal out of their smile.

Inlays and onlays are more extensive restorations. There are two types: direct or indirect. Direct inlays and onlays are made in the cosmetic dental office on the spot and applied in one visit. Indirect inlays and onlays are fabricated in a dental lab. They usually require a second visit but the results are well worth the extra trip.

When a San Diego client has a tooth that cannot be restored with an inlay or an onlay, a natural-looking porcelain crown is the answer. At Marcos Ortega DDS, we create crowns that blend in perfectly with the rest of your teeth. Let us show you some photos of patients who have received smile makeovers – you will not see any “Chiclet” crowns that stick out like a sore thumb. In fact, you won’t be able to tell which of our San Diego dental clients have crowns.

Marcos Ortega DDS, a cosmetic and sedation dentistry practice, is located at 306 Walnut Ave., Suite 25 in San Diego. Dentist Dr. Marcos Ortega is currently accepting new patients. Call 619-717-8459 to schedule an aesthetic dental consultation.

How Mini Dental Implants Can Help Your Smile In San Diego

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

How Mini Dental Implants Can Help Your Smile in 92103 I’m Dr. Marcos Ortega, a cosmetic dentist in the San Diego area. In a recent post, I explained how traditional dental implants are used to dramatically improve the lives of my San Diego denture and cosmetic dentistry clients. Today’s topic is mini dental implants, sometimes called ‘immediate implants’.

Though they are not as well known as traditional tooth implants, mini implants are also being used successfully in the 92103 postal code area to improve smiles. Like their larger diameter counterparts, mini implants can support a restoration for one or more missing teeth or replace a bridge or fixed denture. Tooth restoration clients and denture wearers benefit greatly from these slip free dental implants that are anchored securely in the jaw bone.

In some cases, a patient is unable to receive traditional full-size dental implants due to insufficient bone thickness. There are also mini implant patients in the 92103 postal code area who are not able to undergo dental implant surgery due to health issues. These overdenture patients are often excellent candidates for the mini version.

The placement of toothpick-size mini dental implants can usually be done in one dental visit. The placement usually requires no incisions or stitches. Recovery time, if necessary, is usually very short. Most patients are able to eat dinner that evening.

Many San Diego cosmetic dentistry clients are happy to learn that mini implants are a lower cost dental implants option. Don’t let the word ‘mini’ fool you; Your smile can receive a maximum upgrade with mini dental implants.

Porcelain Veneers and Instant Orthodontics For San Diego

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

San Diego Porcelain Veneers and Instant Orthodontics If you have been paying attention to the San Diego orthodontics scene in recent years, you probably know about invisible braces and speed braces. These new teeth straightening procedures have been welcomed by many people, especially San Diego adults who want an alternative to traditional metal braces.

There’s more good news for Hillcrest dentistry clients who want to straighten their teeth. How about ‘instant orthodontics’?

If you want immediate teeth straightening, you can smile sooner with porcelain veneers from Marcos Ortega DDS!

The key to achieving a celebrity smile may be porcelain veneers for your teeth from a San Diego cosmetic dentist. Dr. Marcos Ortega can help you determine if porcelain veneer dentistry is for you. Ongoing education is essential for elite cosmetic dentists who work to continually provide the latest procedures and materials for their cosmetic and orthodontic clients. We can help.

In addition to correcting tooth alignment, porcelain veneers are used to whiten teeth and restore chipped teeth in Mission Hills, Mission Valley, San Diego, and Bankers Hill. Porcelain veneers are attached to the front of teeth and often require no removal of healthy tooth structure. Another advantage? They are less expensive than complete crown restorations but look just as natural. -Actually, they look far better than most natural teeth!

For an instant orthodontic consultation, call Marcos Ortega DDS at 619-717-8459. Porcelain veneers may be the best way for you to receive a smile makeover at a fraction of the cost.

Do Whitestrips Work?

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Do Whitestrips Work in San Diego? If you have visited the toothpaste aisle at your Hillcrest Wal-Mart, you have probably noticed dozens of products that claim to whiten your teeth. A few years ago, the only over-the-counter tooth whitening options in Hillcrest were whitening toothpastes and Crest Whitestrips. Now there is a wide variety of products at every drugstore counter in the Hillcrest area.

Whitening Rinses
Mission Hills, Mission Valley, and Hillcrest whitening rinses are similar to mouthwashes. They kill bacteria, freshen breath and may help remove plaque. Whitening rinses, however, contain tooth-whitening ingredients not found in mouthwashes. Manufacturers advise taking a mouthful of the rinse and letting it slosh around on your teeth for one minute twice a day. Though this method is simple, many users never notice a lightening of their teeth. This is probably because the rinse does not touch your teeth long enough to truly whiten them.

Whitening Strips
The whitening strips you can buy in Hillcrest  grocery stores have a couple of drawbacks. Though they contain a bleaching agent, it is much less potent than those used in Bankers Hill dental offices. Another problem is that they do not whiten between teeth because the strips only touch the front surface. Though it is possible to remove stains, it can take months to see any whitening. By that point, you have probably spent more money than you would have if you’d have chosen the professional system at your Hillcrest tooth whitening dental clinic.

Teeth Whitening Gels
Whitening gels are painted onto teeth with a small brush. One problem with whitening gels is that they only stick to dry teeth. If any saliva gets on the teeth during treatment, the gel is more likely to slide off.

If you are serious about dramatically whitening your teeth, the safest, quickest, and most affordable system is at your Hillcrest dental office.
