Smile Perfection in San Diego

Friday, September 16th, 2011

“The most difficult part of attaining perfection is finding something to do for an encore.” -Author Unknown

We are perfectionists at Marcos Ortega DDS, where we create perfect smiles for our San Diego cosmetic dentistry and smile makeover patients.

Here are some of the cosmetic dental procedures we use in smile makeovers at Marcos Ortega DDS, Cosmetic and Sedation Dentistry in San Diego.

Implant Dentistry
Dental implants are the ultimate tooth restoration available in San Diego or anywhere else, for that matter. A tooth implant consists of a metal post that is inserted into your jawbone. The post replaces the root of the missing tooth.

After a few months, it meshes with your jawbone to provide the strength and integrity of a natural tooth. A base and natural-looking crown is permanently attached to the post. For most San Diego patients with missing teeth, it is the preferred restoration. Implants can also be used to attach dentures and partial dentures for no-slip implant/denture combos.

Crowns
A mainstay of San Diego cosmetic dentistry, dental crowns are more beautiful than ever. New fabrication technologies and materials have improved the aesthetics and strength of this restorative option.

Veneers
Dental veneers are a more conservative treatment than a full crown. This is a good choice for San Diego patients whose teeth are structurally sound but have unsightly flaws such as discoloration, chips, cracks, or imperfect shape. Are you one of the many San Diego teens or adults with dark tetracycline stains? Call us today at 619-717-8459 to say goodbye to tetracycline stains!

Inlays/Onlays
Inlays and onlays (indirect fillings) are designed and fabricated using dental CAD/CAM software. These fillings are strong, attractive, and precisely fitted to the cavity.

Tooth Whitening
Teeth whitening is the crowning touch for a perfect smile. (It’s the only thing you need if you are a fortunate San Diego man or woman with perfectly-shaped and aligned teeth.) No one has to live with dull or stained teeth. Call us today for a teeth whitening consultation at our San Diego office.

San Diego Dentists And Your Mouth Sores

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

San Diego Dentists And Your Mouth Sores As your local San Diego dentist, one of my roles is to help you take care of your mouth. Sometimes mouth sores can be an issue, and while San Diego dentists often defer to an oral surgeon for extreme cases, we can help you make an assessment.

If you live in the San Diego area and have a mouth sore that lasts more than a week or two; come and see me. Mouth sores can be an indicator of disease, and an early assessment is the best bet. A better understanding of your mouth sores can lead quickly to comfort and a resolution. If necessary, treatment and pain relief can be offered.  We offer emergency dental treatment.

There are two common types of mouth sores that are common in the San Diego area; canker sores and cold sores.

Canker sores are small ulcer-like sores with a white or gray base and a red border. They are found on the inside of the mouth and while they are not contagious, they can be painful. Typically a canker sore heals in a week or two. Antimicrobal mouth-rinses, over-the-counter topical anesthetics, and avoiding spicy and acidic foods may offer you temporary relief while your sore is healing.

The cause of a canker sores is not certain. Possible explanations range from a cut on the inside the mouth, and reactions to extreme temperatures or acids from food or drink, to fatigue, stress, and allergies. Some studies point to bacteria or viruses, or combinations of all these factors.

Cold sores, also called fever blisters or Herpes Simplex, are groups of fluid-filled blisters that often appear around the lips, sometimes appearing under the nose or around the chin. Cold sores are contagious and painful, but usually heal in about a week. Some over-the-counter anesthetics may provide relief. There are some antiviral drugs on the market that have shown promise in reducing outbreaks, but there is currently no known cure. The initial infection, known as primary herpes, often occurs before adulthood. Once the virus infects you, it may stay in your body and remain inactive or cause occasional cold sore outbreaks. Outbreaks may be triggered by a fever, sunburn, skin abrasions, stress, or exposure to extremes in temperature.

As your San Diego cosmetic dentist, I can’t do much to stop canker sores or cold sores in your mouth. I can discuss the health of your mouth, and examine any causes that make your mouth sore. In some cases a change in the way you care for your mouth can reduce the chances of getting mouth sores. If you are in the San Diego, and would like to speak with a dental professional about mouth sores, area give us a call at Marcos Ortega DDS.  We also offer cosmetic dentistry services such as teeth whitening and dental veneers.

Our number is 619-717-8459.

What is a Canted Midline?

Friday, August 12th, 2011

San Diego Cosmetic Dentists Dr. Marcos Ortega considers many factors when designing a smile for a San Diego smile makeover client. One of the smile design elements involved is the facial midline. The facial midline can be determined by drawing an imaginary line from the center of the eyebrows to the center of the two peaks in the top lip (Cupid’s bow).

The skilled San Diego cosmetic dentist considers the length and angle of the facial midline to properly position porcelain crowns, veneers and dental implants. When front teeth restorations do not line up with the facial midline, it is called a canted midline. This is a common mistake found in the cosmetic work of inexperienced San Diego cosmetic dentists.

Most San Diego dentistry patients do not realize the level of 3-D engineering required in cosmetic dentistry. In addition to the orientation in relation to the facial midline, there is also the angle and size of the teeth in relation to each other and in relation to the size and shape of the lips and gums.

If you are considering an extensive smile makeover, you do not want to trust your smile to an inexperienced San Diego cosmetic dentist. When you have a smile design consultation with Dr. Marcos Ortega feel free to ask probing questions about Dr. Ortega’s experience and technical design procedures. We are confident that you will feel comfortable choosing Dr. Ortega for your smile makeover.

Marcos Ortega DDS is located at 306 Walnut Ave, Ste 25 in San Diego. We offer a full range of general and cosmetic dental procedures. Ask us about dental veneers, clear braces, and tooth whitening. We look forward to meeting you. Call us today at 619-717-8459.

Many of my patients visit my blog regularly and I hope you will also find useful dental information here.

Do you currently have a San Diego dentist? If you are in need of a dentist or are not happy with your current San Diego dentist, I invite you to visit my office, meet my very comfortable and friendly staff, and discuss your dental needs with me.

My approach to my profession emphasizes you, the patient.

My first priority is exceeding my patient’s expectations. Before I can provide dental treatment, however, I must become familiar with each patient. That is why your first consultation will take some time. We can’t get to know each other in five minutes.

How are you doing? What is the current condition of your teeth and gums? What are your fears and expectations about San Diego dental treatment? Do you have financial concerns regarding your dental needs? I recognize that each one of my patients has a unique set of circumstances.

At Marcos Ortega DDS, we emphasize preventative dental care. When restorative dental treatment is necessary, I recommend the most conservative procedures. If you have pressing dental needs, let’s talk about your options and consider the long term consequences of each treatment. If I believe it is best to refer you to another specialist, I’ll do so without hesitation. I am committed to your well-being and want you to receive the best possible care.  We offer services such as dental veneers and teeth whitening.

Help Me San Diego; I’m Afraid Of The Dentist!

Friday, May 13th, 2011

San Diego Sleep Dentistry If you are afraid of your San Diego cosmetic dentist, you are not alone. At Marcos Ortega DDS, we encounter many nervous first-time San Diego dental patients. How do we calm their fears, provide a comfortable dental environment and earn lifelong clients?

1) We carefully explain the findings of the initial dental examination and thoroughly outline any recommended procedures. The consultation also includes a discussion about pain control including oral conscious sedation medications. This allows our San Diego dentistry clients to make informed decisions about their oral health and necessary dental procedures.

2) Dr. Marcos Ortega practices gentle, pain-free dentistry. San Diego cosmetic dentistry treatment will not begin until you are numb. Keep in mind, however, that every dentistry patient reacts to numbing agents and sedation medications differently.

Speak up quickly if you start to feel discomfort. We will pause treatment, administer additional analgesic and wait until it takes effect. At Marcos Ortega DDS, we never rush cosmetic dental or restorative procedures.

We will do our best to make you comfortable, whether you are receiving dental veneers, undergoing crown-lengthening treatment, having your teeth whitened, or replacing your old silver fillings.

3) We provide many in-office amenities at Marcos Ortega DDS which help our dental patients focus on something pleasant during cosmetic dental treatment. Not every San Diego dental patient chooses sedation dentistry. Sometimes chemical-free diversions such as listening to your favorite music provide a diversion while letting you remain clear-headed.

At Marcos Ortega DDS, we understand dental anxiety and will help you overcome it. We are located at 306 Walnut Ave., Suite 25 in San Diego, 92103.  We also provide dentistry for the cities of Bankers Hill  Mission Hills, Mission Valley, and   Hillcrest.

To schedule a friendly consultation, call 619-717-8459 or visit http://www.MySanDiegoSmiles.com.

Advanced Dentistry in San Diego

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Advanced Dentistry in San Diego The world of dentistry continues to advance at a rapid pace. If you have visited a San Diego dentist in the past few years, you have probably noticed the things that make your visit more comfortable, such as the ability to watch TV or listen to music while receiving treatment. Many San Diego dentistry patients welcome oral conscious sedation to reduce or eliminate pain.

What may not be as obvious are the advances in techniques, tools and materials. Top San Diego dentists now use digital computer imaging which is safer than traditional x-rays. Dental technicians can store, retrieve and transmit digital images much easier than was possible with traditional x-ray film.

The use of lasers has also changed the face of dentistry. Laser surgery requires less anesthesia, minimizes swelling, and protects surrounding tissue. San Diego family dentists use lasers for detecting and treating cavities and dental technicians use them for the curing of restorative materials.

Another exciting development in cosmetic dentistry is the CAD-CAM technology that allows Bankers Hill cosmetic dentists to perform restorations in a single visit. The types of procedures that can be completed in one visit include crowns, fillings, inlays, onlays and veneers.

If you need a thorough exam or want to improve your smile with cosmetic dentistry, call Marcos Ortega DDS at 619-295-4545 to schedule a consultation. During your consultation, you can see before and after photos of some of our smile makeover clients. We would love to help you achieve the smile you have always wanted, and we have the tools, experience and technology to make that happen.

Porcelain Veneers in San Diego

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Porcelain Veneers With porcelain veneers, you can revamp your smile without significant restorative dental work.

Porcelain veneers are glass-like, wafer-thin covers that are attached to the front of your teeth. Porcelain has been used in dentistry for many years because no other restorative material is such an excellent match for natural tooth enamel. Porcelain is translucent and can be matched to the color of any tooth. It is stronger than enamel and resists stains. Dental ceramists who fabricate porcelain veneers are both artists and technicians. They create beautiful paper-thin wafers that adhere to teeth, correcting chips and stains. Porcelain veneers can also straighten crooked teeth for patients who don’t need orthodontic work.

Patients who receive porcelain veneers appreciate the less-invasive process of enhancing their smile. Newer techniques require no removal of healthy tooth enamel.

We would be happy to show you what dental veneers can do for your smile at our San Diego dental office.

Marcos Ortega DDS is located at 306 Walnut Ave., Suite 25 in San Diego. We provide skilled dental care for patients in the greater San Diego area. Our phone number is 619-295-4545. You can visit http://www.mysandiegosmiles.com/doctors.htm for information about our practice and our very comfortable and friendly team.

San Diego Prepless Veneers

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

San Diego Prepless Veneers

One of the latest breakthroughs in San Diego cosmetic dentistry is prepless veneers. Though thousands of Hillcrest and Mission Hills, Mission Valley smile restoration clients who have received traditional veneers are happy with the results, some California dental patients have delayed this procedure because they do not want to lose healthy tooth structure.

San Diego prepless veneers are a less-invasive procedure for transforming San Diego smiles. New Marcos Ortega DDS prepless veneers are incredibly thin shells which adhere to the face of teeth and require no removal of tooth enamel. Most San Diego prepless veneers are about the thickness of two pieces of paper. Because the color is built into the veneers (instead of being applied after fabrication), they look like your natural teeth–only better!

Our experienced California ceramists are skilled artists. They create each custom San Diego dental veneer with the optimum shape, color and thickness for your new smile. Another great feature of the Marcos Ortega DDS prepless veneers application procedure is that it requires no anesthesia or drilling.

If you are embarrassed by misaligned, discolored or broken teeth, Mission Hills, Mission Valley prepless veneers may be a California smile restoration solution that you can feel good about.

Call Marcos Ortega DDS to learn more about prepless dental veneers. It is the first step toward your dazzling new smile!
